Part 1. What should we know about fuel additives?
Fuel additives are divided intogasoline additives and diesel additives from the perspective of their uses. In terms of function, it is generally divided into three categories: cleaning type, maintenance type, and power enhancement type. The chemical components in the cleaning type and the curing type contain cleaning factors, which can effectively clean or inhibit the generation of carbon deposits in the engine. According to different chemical components, additives are divided into five generations.
The power boost type generally contains metal components, such as MMT (manganese) and other metal compounds, which can solve the problems of insufficient power and fault codes caused by the fuel quality of the vehicle.
The cleaning additive has a large dosage (200ml-400ml), high concentration in gasoline, and high cost. Usually the price is more than 100 yuan. The cleaning effect is strong, the effect is fast, and the product with good effect can be used in the fuel system. The carbon deposits in the middle (injector, combustion chamber, etc.) are completely removed, and only need to be used in stages.
The mainstream multi-point EFI (manifold injection) models with carbon deposits are mostly located in the fuel injectors, intake valves and intake manifolds in the low temperature area of the fuel system. The chemical composition of PIBA (polyisobutylene amine) additives can be used to solve the problem.
The carbon deposits of the new type of direct injection (GDI) models are mostly located in the injectors, combustion chambers and piston tips in the high temperature area of the fuel system. The use of additives with a chemical composition of PEA (polyether amine) can solve the carbon deposit problem.
The maintenance-type additive has a small dosage (50ml-100ml). It is also called gasoline detergent "GB19592-2004". The fuel treasure sold at gas stations is such a product. The concentration in gasoline is low, and the cost is low. Within 30 yuan, long-term continuous use is required. It can better inhibit the deposits produced by the fuel intake system of automobile engines. Its cleaning effect is obvious but the cleaning effect is weak, and it is mostly suitable for multi-point electronic injection (manifold injection) models with the largest number of shares in the market.
The octane adjustment can be understood as a power-enhancing type. Popularly, it can turn 92 gasoline into 95 gasoline, but it is not recommended for long-term use, because this product contains MMT (manganese) metal compounds and metal particles after burning. It will stick to the spark plug and the three-way catalyst, which will reduce their service life and replace them in advance.
It's not unavailable. You can also bring two bottles when driving a vehicle on a long journey or to a remote mountainous area to solve the problem of poor local oil products. It can also effectively compensate for the power attenuation and insufficient calorific value caused by ethanol gasoline.
Part 2. Can fuel additives damage your engine?
Fuels distributed by specialized oil companies contain so-called performance additives. When added to gasoline and diesel, these compounds change the characteristics of these fuels, thereby improving engine performance and service life.
Modern, compact and sophisticated engines are particularly sensitive to certain problems, such as pollution, which reduces the performance and life of the engine, increases fuel consumption and increases carbon dioxide and pollutant emissions. High-quality fuels containing additives may be the most effective way to combat the negative effects of fouling, thanks to the detergent additives they contain. High-quality fuel with additives can be used for therapeutic and preventive purposes.
Part 3. What do fuel additives actually do?
List of main performance additives found in high-quality fuels:
Antiseptic. Protect metal parts from corrosion and rust caused by water. Among other things, these additives help extend the life of the injection system.
Antioxidants. Prevent premature deterioration of the stored fuel, thereby limiting the formation of deposits or gums in the fuel tank or fuel tank.
Demulsifier and water dispersant. Reduce the risk of water in the fuel. It is well known that water can cause premature wear of the injection system and engine.
Detergent. By removing carbon deposits caused by incomplete combustion, clean or maintain important parts of the injection system (such as injectors and intake valves). Total Excelium fuel cleaner can reduce the fouling of the injector and valve.
Friction modifier. Reduce mechanical friction loss between metal parts (mainly cylinders or fuel injection pumps) and improve engine performance.
Diesel has specific additives. Diesel additives mainly include:
Cold flow improver. Improve its operability by reducing the use temperature of low-temperature diesel. Diesel will crystallize and even freeze at very low temperatures. Vehicles parked outdoors at night are most affected. It should be noted that there are also some "extremely cold" diesel fuels that can withstand temperatures as low as -20°C.
Anti-foam. Reduce foam when filling the fuel tank. This accumulation of foam prevents the fuel tank from being completely filled, causing fuel to overflow from the tank opening and splash onto the vehicle body and the user's feet.
Proxitam. Improve combustion by promoting auto-ignition of diesel.
Relapse agent. Make the smell of diesel more pleasant and less intense.
