Mainly used as a raw material for polyester fiber, and used in other polyester resins, unsaturated polyester resins and 1730 polyester paint. Many types of surfactants can be derived from ethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol. Its dinitro compound dinitroglycol is an explosive. Ethylene glycol can lower the freezing point of aqueous solutions, so it is often used as an antifreeze.
